War Statistics

bombs on haifa xxxxxxxx bombs on beirut

Pasted Graphic di Karim Y.
The politics & law (if any) of it are too obvious to discuss. Repetition of media headlines you might have already read would be boring. So, I’ll stick to relating the Statistics of the first week.

Lebanon:
-          Civilians: 250 (including, at least 25 women and children) killed; 530 wounded. (Lebanese allegations of Israel using forbidden weapons. Not verified and irrelevant for the dead).

-          Lebanese soldiers: 24 killed; 65 wounded. That is, 10-times more civilians “collateral” than soldiers! The “smart” bombs aim to disarm Hezbollah, or Downtown Beirut? (Brought back to the stone-age only 25 years ago).

-          Major damage to civilian infra-structure (destroyed: 50 bridges and highways, 10s of electric & water plants, the international airport, 300 miles of roads, & 5000 residential buildings). (Al-Nahar, Lebanese Newspaper, confirmed by B.B.C).

Resulting in: 500, 000 civilians without a shelter (UNICEF officer in Lebanon), from a total population of 4 Millions (that is 12% of the population).

Needless to say, War crimes under Geneva Conventions (applicable to Lebanon, I hope),  in “self-defense” for the kidnap of 2 Israeli soldiers.   (Well, WW-I started for a bullet).

Israel: 2 soldiers kidnapped, 10 killed; + 13 civilians.

Recent & Future Moves:
·         IDF (Israeli “Defense” Forces) say they need 2 more weeks on the job. You do the math, with consideration for increased performance with time…

·         Israel: “Iran is involved in the kidnapping of the soldiers”. So, 3 States (Syria, Iran and Lebanon) have planned the kidnap of 2 soldiers.  Lol!

·         Bush:
1.      Syria should pressure Hezbollah, and is not doing enough,
2.      Oh, Syria wants to go back to Lebanon and should be punished for that (Basically, je t’aime-moi-non-plus thing).

·         The Egyptian “President”: “Jail for anyone who demonstrates in support of Lebanon.”(So, apparently we do owe them that much money&hellipWinking.
·         Full Scale assault in Palestine, not covered by the media (so, I don’t have statistics here).

Tonight,
1.      Land invasion en cours. Few hours ago, Israeli troops entered southern Lebanon. (Déjà vu in 1982 with 80,000 civilian causalities).  Hope no breaking records is involved.
2.      Tonight, also, 1 American nuclear submarine and 7 large gunboats traveled through the Suez-Canal heading to the shores of Beirut and Syria! (With Egyptian authorities closing the channel for 2 hours for passage and the air force providing air-protection!!). In international law, that’s Egyptian complicity in whatever these things will be used for (not throwing barbies I guess).

God be with Lebanese and Israeli civilians.
